Changes to your MBNA credit card account
We’re always working to help customers get the most out of their credit card, so we’re making some changes.
From your October 2016 statement you’ll have an extra 7 days to make your monthly payment. Information about any payments due, including the new due date, will always be shown on your monthly statement. The date we produce your statement won’t change.
Important to know
- If you’ve set up a Direct Debit, you don’t need to make any changes. Direct Debit payments will be claimed on your new payment due date, so please make sure you’ve got funds in your chosen bank account to cover them.
- Standing orders will continue to be paid on the date you set up with your bank or building society.
Good to know
Make sure you check your statement and change your payment arrangements when necessary – for example, if you’ve got a standing order in place, you should check each month to make sure it covers at least your minimum payment.
If this change makes things less convenient for you, in some cases we can change your statement date to make your payment due date earlier or later. To discuss your options, please log into your account and send us a secure message.
As long as you pay your statement balance in full and on time each month, from October 2016 you won’t be charged interest on new card purchases for up to 56 days... that’s an extra 7 days.
If you’re paying interest on your account, please remember that interest accrues daily. So, the sooner your payment arrives each month, the less interest you’re likely to pay. If you don’t pay until the payment due date you’re likely to pay more interest.

Why it’s important to pay on time
By making payments on time you’ll avoid additional fees and charges, any promotional offers being lost or any negative records being added to your credit file, which is important if you want to apply for credit in the future.
Plan for future payments
If you don’t have a Direct Debit set up on your account, it’s a reliable way to make regular payments. Just select a payment amount, and we’ll automatically collect it from your selected bank account on the due date each month. To get started, log in or register for Online Card Services.
