Experience of a lifetime for lucky Liverpool FC mascot winner at Anfield

MBNA has teamed up with the Liverpool FC Foundation to give one lucky child the opportunity to walk out onto the hallowed turf of the Anfield pitch with LFC’s biggest stars.

To choose its mascot, MBNA worked with the Liverpool FC Foundation to invite 30 children from the club’s weekly after-school football sessions held for 7- to 11-year-olds across Wavertree, Rainhill and Anfield to attend a special event at Anfield stadium on 23 February.

The Foundation helped to draw up the mascot shortlist by selecting 10 children from each area in recognition of their positive attitude, effort and commitment to making training sessions fun and enjoyable.

Liverpool FC’s official mascot, Mighty Red, was on hand at the event to add to the excitement, giving out MBNA goodie bags and footballs to all of the children as a reward for their enthusiasm and participation.

The lucky winner of the prize draw for the coveted mascot appearance was Liam Wilson, aged nine, from Anfield. Liam will achieve his childhood dream by walking out with Liverpool’s starting 11 against Burnley FC at Anfield stadium on Wednesday 4 March 2015.

Sue Wilson, mother of Liam said: “I would just like to thank the Liverpool FC Foundation and MBNA for making Liam’s dream come true. This day will never be forgotten. The team and staff made a huge effort with Liam and truly made the day special.”

Michael Donald, Commercial and Customer Experience executive at MBNA, said: “We have a long-standing relationship with Liverpool FC and a great sense of pride that thousands of fans choose to carry our LFC credit card.

“We hope that Liam will have the experience of a lifetime walking out hand-in-hand onto the Anfield pitch with his heroes, which I’m sure will be a treasured memory for years to come. Well done to all of the children who were selected for our mascot draw for their brilliant attitudes – we’re glad to say that everyone had a great time and no one left empty handed!”

Andrea Cooper, head of Liverpool FC Foundation, added: “I would like to thank MBNA for their generosity in helping to stage this event and donating their mascot place to the Foundation.

“All the youngsters who attended the event are worthy of such a celebration for all their hard work. They’re a credit to the Foundation and the work it delivers in local communities across the city. I’m sure Liam will be a fantastic mascot and that he will remember the occasion for a long time to come.”

MBNA entered the sports credit card market 22 years ago, and provides affinity initiatives and similar opportunities for a number of football clubs in addition to Liverpool FC, including Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham.
