The magic stuff that makes Google Pay work is called Near Field Communication (NFC). Check it’s switched on by visiting ‘Settings’ - select ‘More’, then look for ‘NFC’. You’ll also need to be running KitKat 4.4 or higher.
You can add different cards to your smartphone, set up a default payment card and update your information in the Google Pay app, whenever you want.

If you add your card to a mobile device, your actual card details will never be on display.
Before using Google Pay we recommend you protect your phone with a password or PIN code. You’ll need to set one up if you haven’t already. Remember not to tell anyone this information.

For extra protection, you can use Find My Device to lock your smartphone and even erase your personal information from anywhere. Good to know, right?
You’ll get the same great protection when you use Google Pay as you do when using your credit card normally. That includes fraud protection as standard and zero fraud liability. Please tell us as soon as you notice any unusual transactions or you can’t find your card.

Frequently asked questions
Is it easy to keep track of my transactions?
We love using calculators to do the numbers. You don’t need one with Google Pay though, as you’ll get a payment notification whenever you make a purchase, helping you keep track of your spending.
Purchases made using Google Pay will show on your statements as normal. To see a list of recent transactions or view your monthly statements, just log in or register for Online Card Services.
How do I return an item?
If you want to return an item, use the same payment method to receive a refund in-store.
