We’re super proud to have collaborated with Disney UK to celebrate the launch of its latest animated release, Moana. The film features an adventurous, seafaring young heroine who, inspired by her grandmother's stories, leaves the safety and security of her island to embark upon a daring journey to save her people.
Moana hit the cinemas on 2 December and to celebrate we sponsored the star-studded premiere at both Vue, Leicester Square and BAFTA. The launch was attended by Nicole Scherzinger (the voice of Moana’s mother, Sina), Auli’I Cravalho, (the voice of Moana herself), and the film’s directors, Ron Clements and John Musker.
Hot on the heels of the premiere, to help really bring Moana to life, working with our partner MBNA Thames Clippers, we transformed a 220 catamaran into a Polynesian Wayfinder. The vessel, which sailed the Thames between 21 November and 11 December, was wrapped to resemble the boat featured in the film, and the interior included themed seat covers, glass-bottom boat effect flooring and a Polynesian adorned bar area. Moana footage was shown on the boat’s TV screens and there was a Moana selfie station for people of all ages to enjoy. Check out the video on this page to see the amazing transformation.
We also ran a series of Moana-themed surprise and delight moments on board the Wayfinder, including a ‘kids go free’ day and a number of free drink offers – it really felt like we brought the magic of Disney to the Thames!
A social media competition followed. Hundreds of entrants shared stories of how grandparents have inspired within their families. We were overwhelmed with responses that made us laugh and cry – sometimes at the same time.
Our judges struggled to whittle them down to six lucky winners, who, along with their families, were whisked away on a VIP adventure to London, including sailing in style on the MBNA Wayfinder to a private screening of the film. Moana goodie bags were handed out to everyone who attended, along with photos of the special day.
Take a peek at all the great photos from the premiere, the MBNA Wayfinder and the competition winners enjoying their VIP adventure.
