MBNA have enjoyed a long-standing relationship with Liverpool FC over the last 19 years and are delighted to extend that partnership into its third decade.
Through our renewed relationship with Liverpool FC, we recruited first team players, Sadio Mané, Joël Matip, Philippe Coutinho and legend Ian Rush to ask fans to imagine what it would be like to play at Anfield in MBNA’s #FaceTheKop prize draw.
3,500+ fans took to social to join the ‘Home’ or ‘Away’ team and for forty winners, that dream of playing at Anfield became a reality as they were lucky enough to #FaceTheKop.
Of the winners, 20 joined the home team to face 20 away fans with every winner receiving the full match day experience of being a first team player. They were provided with kit, boots, a training session and team talk with Liverpool Legend Ian Rush, before getting ready for kick-off.
When the time came, the teams were led out of the tunnel to the deafening sound of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’, while the iconic sounds of the Kop stand echoed around the stadium as the winners lined up in front of their friends and families.
In a closely-fought game, it was the reds of Liverpool FC Home who came out on top, winning 5-2, to be crowned our #FaceTheKop 2017 Champions. Both teams were presented with a commemorative #FaceTheKop trophy by Ian Rush.
Fans can also experience the thrill of the Kop at the National Football Museum in Manchester until 30 June with an interactive, virtual exhibition that recreates the atmosphere of the legendary Kop.
So, ‘What would you give to play at Anfield?’ Watch this space, as next time it might be you who grabs that winning goal as #FaceTheKop returns in 2018…
