How we use your personal information

MBNA Travel Insurance is arranged and administered by AEGON Direct Marketing Services Europe Ltd., ("ADMS"), underwritten by White Horse Insurance Ireland Limited and introduced by MBNA Europe Bank Limited ("MBNA"). This website (the "Site") is operated by MBNA. AEGON Direct Marketing Services Europe Ltd and MBNA Europe Bank Limited are authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority. White Horse Insurance Ireland Limited is regulated by the Irish Financial Services Authority (Financial Regulator).

Your privacy is important to ADMS, MBNA and White Horse Insurance Ireland Limited. We promise to respect your personal information and will try to ensure that your details are accurate and kept up to date.

Please take a few minutes to read this Privacy Statement as it contains important information relating to the details that you give to ADMS, MBNA and White Horse Insurance Ireland Limited when you use this Site. It also outlines some of the security measures that we take in order to protect your privacy and gives certain assurances on things that we will not do. You should also show this document to anyone else who is covered under your policy.


Information on MBNA, ADMS and White Horse Insurance Ireland Ltd's use of your
personal information

MBNA, ADMS and White Horse Insurance Ireland Limited shall exchange your personal information between them, but your personal information will only be disclosed to third parties other than ADMS and its associated companies, MBNA and White Horse Insurance Ireland Limited if:

  • it is necessary for the performance of your agreement with ADMS, or
  • if you have given your consent, or
  • if such disclosure is required or permitted by law.

 

Sensitive personal information

ADMS will not use sensitive information about you or others except for the purpose of insurance administration.

Dealing with other people

At the request of many of our customers and to make managing your insurance more convenient, it is ADMS' and White Horse Insurance Ireland Limited's policy to deal with your spouse or partner who calls us on your behalf provided they are named on the policy. If you would like someone else to be able to deal with your policy for you on a regular basis, please let ADMS know. In some exceptional circumstances we may also deal with other people who call ADMS or White Horse Insurance Ireland Limited on your behalf.

Use of your personal information by MBNA

MBNA will use your personal information to:

  • confirm, update and improve their customer records;
  • identify and market products and services that may be of interest to you;
  • analyse and develop their relationships with you;
  • help in processing any applications you may make; and
  • assist with research and statistical analysis.

MBNA will use your personal information to send you information on new products and services that we offer directly, on behalf of our subsidiaries or associates, which we think might be of interest to you. You will of course continue to receive information about your policy.

MBNA may record telephone calls for training and security purposes.


Use of your personal information by ADMS and White Horse Insurance Ireland Limited

ADMS and White Horse Insurance Ireland Limited will use your personal information to manage and administer your insurance policy, including underwriting and claims handling. This may include disclosing it to other insurers, regulatory authorities, or to ADMS' or White Horse Insurance Ireland Limited's agents who provide services on their behalf.

AEGON Direct Marketing Services Europe Ltd. is an AEGON company. To manage and administer your policy, including underwriting and claims handling, we will hold and use information about you supplied by you and by medical providers. We may send it in confidence for processing to other AEGON companies (or companies acting on our instructions) including those located outside the European Economic Area. By purchasing this insurance you consent to such use of your personal data. We will use this information to provide you with a more personalised service and also for marketing purposes.

From time to time ADMS will let MBNA know about a product or service we consider may be of interest to you.


Automatic renewals

ADMS will retain your payment details securely on its files in order to continue to collect your premium when your policy is renewed. Each year, we will write to you in advance to remind you that this is happening.

Fraud prevention and detection

Insurance fraud costs the industry millions of pounds each year and inevitably increases premiums. In order to prevent and detect fraud ADMS may at any time:

  • share information about you across the ADMS group of companies, with other insurers and, where we are entitled to do so under the Data Protection Act, the police and other law enforcement agencies
  • check your details with fraud prevention agencies and, if you give us false or inaccurate information and we suspect fraud, ADMS will record this with the fraud prevention agency. ADMS and other organisations may also use and search these records to:

A. help make decisions about the credit and credit-related services for you and members of your household.

b. help make decisions on travel, household, credit, life and other insurance proposals and claims for you and members of your household.

c. trace debtors, recover debt, prevent fraud and to manage your insurance policies.

d. check your identity to prevent money laundering, unless you furnish us with other satisfactory proof of identity.

e. undertake credit searches and additional fraud searches.

We exchange information with various databases to help us check information provided and to prevent fraudulent claims. Your policy could be invalid if you provide us with incorrect or incomplete information. The aim is to help ADMS and White Horse Insurance Ireland Limited to check information provided and also to prevent fraudulent claims. When ADMS deals with your request for insurance we may search these registers. Under the conditions of your policy you must tell ADMS about any incident (such as an accident or theft) which may or may not give rise to a claim. When you tell ADMS or White Horse Insurance Ireland Limited about an incident, we may pass information relating to it to the registers.

 

Call recording

ADMS and White Horse Insurance Ireland Limited may record telephone calls for training and quality checking purposes.

Obtaining your personal information

You are entitled on payment of a fee to receive a copy of the personal information ADMS or White Horse Insurance Ireland Limited hold about you. This will include information that you have given us at any time whilst your policy is in force.
