Making Payments
Make sure you pay back your credit on time. It is essential if you want to enjoy the flexibility that borrowing money can offer.
How do I make a payment to my MBNA account?
You can make payments in several ways:
Online
You can make payments using our secure Online Banking website which is free to enrol for and available 24 hours a day. Once enrolled and logged in, select the Make Payment option and follow the instructions. Make a payment before 5pm Mon-Fri and it’ll reach your account in 2 working days. Pay after 5pm or on weekends and bank holidays and it’ll reach your account in 3 working days.
Note - we don’t set a restriction on the amount you can pay into your account. However, your card issuer may set a transaction limit.
Direct debit
You can set up a direct debit online by choosing the Manage Account option within Online Banking and following the instructions. Alternatively, call 0800 062 062. Your direct debit payment will be taken regardless of any additional payments you make, credited on your payment due date and collected from your bank account on the same or next day.
Telephone or internet banking and Faster Payments
You can make payments to your MBNA Credit Card account using your bank’s telephone or internet service. You will need to provide them with your credit card number and MBNA’s bank details – account number: 70328725 and sort code: 086130. Please allow up to 4 days for payments to reach your credit card account.
Some banks offer a ‘Faster Payments’ service. Faster Payments received by MBNA Mon-Fri before 4pm will reach your credit card account the same day. After 4pm, or on weekends and bank holidays, payments will reach your account the next working day. You will see a payment on your MBNA account the day after the payment is processed.
Post
Make your cheque payable to MBNA together with a completed Bank Giro Credit slip (from the bottom of your statement) to:
Card services
Royal Avenue
Widnes
WA88 1AS
Please write your card number on the ‘pay’ line on the front of the cheque and your name and address on the reverse. Allow up to 5 working days before the payment due date on your statement. This may take longer if you use 2nd class post.
At a bank
Use the Bank Giro Credit slip at the bottom of your statement. The Co-operative Bank doesn’t charge a fee but others may. MBNA only accepts MBNA Bank Giro Credit slips. Payment by either cash or cheque will take the same time to reach your account. Allow 4 working days before the payment due date on your statement.
How can I avoid late charges?
As detailed in your terms and conditions, we may charge a fee if your minimum payment has not reached your account by the payment due date. To prevent this, please send your payment 5 working days before the due date. You can check your payments anytime through our secure Online Banking service.
You can avoid late charges by setting up a direct debit. You can do this by logging into MBNA’s Online Banking service (you’ll need to enrol for Online Banking first) or by calling 0800 062 062.
What is estimated interest and how can I reduce or avoid it?
Estimated interest is the interest you’ll be charged on your next statement if you pay the agreed minimum amount on time. It assumes you make no transactions, incur no fees and there are no changes in your statement date or interest rate (except when a promotional interest rate expires).
You can reduce the amount of interest by paying more than the minimum payment, and avoid interest altogether if you pay the balance off in full and on time each month. Remember, interest is charged from the day you make transactions or withdraw cash from an ATM or bank, and there is an extra handling fee for these transactions.
What happens if I forget to make my payment?
If you forget to make your payment you can make one through MBNA’s Online Banking or by calling 0800 062 062. If you’re over your credit limit make sure your payment covers the excess amount, plus any fees and interest (see your statement for your estimated interest). You may incur fees if you don’t keep up your payments.
What can I do if I’m having financial difficulties?
If you’re having financial difficulties it’s in everyone’s interests to sort things out. Call us on 0800 028 0690 as soon as possible and we’ll do all we can to reach a solution.
