How do charity credit cards contribute to charities?
Charity credit cards give charities an important source of revenue. At MBNA we issue the credit card and then make small financial contributions to that charity usually based on the card usage.
How much money does the charity receive?
The percentage of contribution varies by charity credit card. Just by using your charity credit card for everyday spending such as food or petrol purchases earns a contribution for the charity; and combined with those contributions from other charity credit card holders the amount soon adds up.
What kind of charity projects do the contributions fund?
The charity allocates the funds. Details of these can be found on the charity credit card page.
Will contributing to my charity cost me anything?
No, the contribution is made directly by MBNA, the card issuer.
Can I still balance transfer on a charity credit card?
Yes, all of our charity credit cards offer a 0% introductory rate on balance transfers that allows you to transfer existing debt to the card from another credit card or loan. A handling fee will be charged for balance transfers.
Am I able to transfer money to my current account using my charity credit card?
Yes, MBNA is one of the few credit card providers to offer the convenient service of transferring funds from the credit card directly into your current account-ideal if you want a cash boost. Like balance transfers, a handling fee will be charged.
Are there differences between charity credit cards and traditional credit cards?
Aside from the contribution made to the charity by the card issuer, then no. However, it is important to remember that each individual card will carry its own fees and interest rates. All our credit cards carry the same great features and services, including:
- Online Banking: check your balance and transactions, view your PIN, set up a direct debit, carry out balance transfers and much more. You can now also help the environment by opting for paperless statements
- Fraud Protection: you will not be liable for fraudulent transactions online or on the high street, providing you tell us as soon as you notice any unusual transactions or cannot find your card
- Free 24-hour UK-based customer service helpline - wherever you are worldwide, whenever you need them, our customer satisfaction representatives are just a phone call away
- Optional extras such as LifestyleProtect, Card Protection and Identity Protection Alert
Do I need to contact the charity to advise them of the contribution?
No, MBNA makes the contributions directly to the charity. This is why charity credit cards are such a simple way to make a difference.
What will my credit limit be?
The amount will be determined by MBNA when you apply for the card. It will be individual to you and depend on your salary and credit history.
I have missed credit payments, can I still apply?
We will approve your credit card application if you have a good credit rating. You are likely to have a poor credit rating if you have recently missed credit payments or have outstanding CCJs.
Contributions at no cost to you
Charity credit cards give charities an important source of revenue. At MBNA, we issue the card and make contributions to the charity based on card usage. The contributions vary by charity. These contributions may seem small but when combined with those from all our charity credit card holders the amount soon adds up.
Guaranteed giving
Since your contributions are linked with your credit card and how much you spend you can rest assured that you are making a difference—it's all set up for you and happens automatically on an ongoing basis.
Small contributions soon add up
You may think that your spending won't make a difference but when combined with all other charity credit card holders it soon adds up. For example, over £10 million has been generated for WWF.
